Science, Solidarity, and Action

So that was a weird Tuesday night, right? You remember the one, in early November.

Seems like misinformation, bigotry, conspiracy theories, and xenophobia took center stage and won full control of the future of the United States’ democracy. What happens next is anyone’s guess.

We understand the gravity of this moment. We hear the fear in our communities: fears of losing even more access to healthcare, fears of more rights being rolled back, and fears of a world where bias and misinformation shape policy instead of facts and compassion.

We’re not here to gloss over those fears; we’re here to meet them head-on.

At Scientists Inc, we stand unequivocally with our trans brothers and sisters, with communities of color, with women whose autonomy is under threat, and with every individual who faces the crosshairs of oppression. We are committed to amplifying the voices of those most at risk, challenging the biases that threaten to erase their humanity, and ensuring that science is a force for progress, not division.

We recognize that fear and misinformation are powerful tools for those who seek to divide us. The rise of conspiracy theories, the erosion of trust in education, and the demonization of marginalized people have all contributed to the current climate.

We believe the answer to fear is knowledge and connection.

Those who have fallen victim to the culture of conspiracy theories, or who hold contempt for humans who are different from them, or who have voted for the dismantling of our civil rights and our institutions are driven wholly by fear and misinformation

Fear of the unknown and mistrust of institutions didn’t emerge in a vacuum. For decades, barriers have existed between the scientific community and the general public, fueling perceptions that science is elitist, inaccessible, or dismissive of everyday concerns.

If we’re honest, the scientific community hasn’t done enough to dismantle those barriers.

Science, at its best, is a bridge, not a barrier. It invites questions, sparks curiosity, and opens doors to understanding. We believe that people, given the opportunity, can change.

So here’s what we pledge to do:

  • Stand Proudly with Marginalized Communities: We will continue to lift voices that are silenced, demonized, or erased.

  • Expand Access to Science: We will work harder to bring science into communities that have felt excluded.

  • Engage with Compassion: While we will not tolerate hate, we will seek to understand the fears and misconceptions that lead to it. We will extend the hand of education and dialogue, knowing that meaningful change comes not from shame, but from connection.

  • Combat Misinformation: We will conquer conspiracies, mitigate myths, and dispel disinformation with patience and truth.

We will not be silent. We will not back down. We will move forward with the knowledge that fear can be redirected into understanding, curiosity, and even love.

We believe that creating connections between people and science is more important now than ever. And we invite you to join us.
