Autism Awareness Month
April is dedicated to the awareness of the neurodevelopmental condition autism. Much of this work is done by advocates trying to increase acceptance and understanding, while trying to dismiss stereotypes.
Darcy is one such advocate, sharing his stories not just as an autistic person navigating life and the education system, but as someone who is now driven to do scientific research and the importance of representation.
During a recent event organized by St. Petersburg College, Darcy gets to discuss all of these points as well as giving a loving shout-out to our Sensational Sci-Fest.
More about the event:
"In honor of Autism Awareness month this past April, Accessibility Services hosted a virtual event that brought together students and faculty from across multiple campuses. The event featured an interview with Darcy Pritchett, a former SPC student, an accomplished professional in aerospace engineering and now a biomedicine student, shared his personal experiences with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The interview highlights the importance of creating universal design environments in education and the pivotal role educators play in fostering success for all students, especially his experience at SPC as both a dual enrolled student and as an AS student in the Engineering Technology program. Lastly, Darcy shared his continued commitment in promoting open access in STEM fields."
